<p>For this model year, Ford has limited the available engines to only two. The Edge ST comes with Ford's second-generation twin-turbocharged 2.7 liter EcoBoost V-6 engine that generates 335 horsepower. All of the other models have a turbocharged inline-four EcoBoost engine that puts out 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are backed by a new eight-speed automatic transmission.</p>
Performance
<p>The eight-speed transmission and turbocharged engine should give the Edge a performance boost over past models even without the ST trim, but the ST is where the performance will really start to shine. It will have sports tuning that extracts snappier responses from the transmission, and it also includes paddle shifters to bolster the ST's performance.</p>
Interior
<p>The Edge is a two-row mid-size SUV, but it is quite spacious for its class. The Sync infotainment system, standard to most new Fords, now also supports a Ford+Alexa app that lets drivers access their home Alexa from the car via an app on their smartphone. There's also a Wi-Fi hotspot capable of supporting up to 10 devices.</p>
Safety Features
<p>One of the major changes to the Edge lineup this year is that it's equipped with a full suite of active safety features. The 2019 Ford Edge will be the first SUV to include Ford Co-Pilot360, a suite of driver-assist technologies that come standard in the Edge. These include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with cross-traffic alert, a lane-keeping system, a rearview camera, and auto high-beam headlamps. Also available is a new evasive steering-assist feature and adaptive cruise control, which can actually bring the vehicle to a full stop.</p>
